ABOUT BEAR MOUNTAIN HONEY! Kim Vander Sys was a mere 9 years old when he purchased his first bees from Sears & Roebuck. That was in 1962. Even at this early age, the Michigan-born boy had a fascination with nature's wonderful insects. When he was 15, he paid $150 for his first "truck load" of bees (which was about 30 hives). Little did he know that this first swarm of bees was the beginning of an obsession that would consume his life for the next 40+ years! The early days of his honey business was born! Kim decided to move to the beautiful Willamette Valley, Oregon in 1971. He found a place in the hills called Bear Mountain that was perfect for his bees. Lush rain forests and an abundance of wildflowers, berries, vines and ferns surround his honey and pollen gathering locations. Life was plentiful! Directly from the hives, the fresh "Bear Mountain Honey" is transported to the company's state-of-the-art stainless steel extracting rooms where over 50,000 pounds of healthy, bee pollen rich honey, is transformed into honey bears, honey jugs, honeystix, bulk honey, beeswax and other bee products for all to enjoy! It was in 1994 that Kim met his wife, Jackie, who was working at a health food store Kim did business with. Soon after, they were married and Jackie became involved in all aspects of the business, especially dealing with the distribution and vendor relationships. Consumers along with the bakery and restaurant business became benefactors of Bear Mountain Honey products. Today, Bear Mountain Honey can be found in a variety of health food stores in Eugene and Lane County Oregon, including quality bakeries, grocery stores, restaurants and more.
